Green Entrepreneurship as a Game Changer in Transforming Traditional Co-operative Enterprises

Abstract

This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) examines the transformative potential of green entrepreneurship in traditional co-operative enterprises. The study synthesizes existing literature to explore how green entrepreneurship practices can bring about significant changes in the operations, strategies, and outcomes of traditional cooperatives in relation to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. In this study, a SLR was performed on publications spanning from 2013 to 2023. The search resulted in 243 articles, out of which 43 underwent thorough analysis after applying rigorous exclusion and quality assessment criteria. These articles were retrieved from Scopus, Google Scholar, and the Web of Science databases on the themes of green entrepreneurship and sustainability of cooperative enterprises were reviewed. By analysing a wide range of scholarly articles, reports, and case studies, this review investigates the drivers, challenges, and impacts of green entrepreneurship initiatives in the co-operative sector. The findings highlight the role of green entrepreneurship as a game changer in driving sustainable innovation, fostering resilience, and enhancing the overall performance of traditional co-operative enterprises. The study concludes that green entrepreneurship holds promise as a potential avenue for revitalizing traditional cooperative enterprises in their current state of affairs. The implications of this review provide valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers aiming to promote the adoption of green entrepreneurship practices in transforming traditional co-operatives toward a more sustainable future.
